Product Review: Everlane Perform Legging

Updated: Apr 8, 2020

Love at second sight, just like it happened with my husband.

Image shots of Everlane Perform Legging

I initially had a scathing review for this legging, and when I put them on again to take photos to show how horrible they are, I fell in love with them. WTH, but YAY I found a pair I like! So here I am editing my review to include a second impression. Enjoy my polarizing thoughts. :)

Questionable fabric

“It feels like a slick solid piece of hosiery, as if sheer stockings and thick tights got together and made a baby.”

Being 4’ 11' ' is difficult especially when it comes to bottoms and even ankle length is meant for people that are 5’ 3” which is a huge height difference. I don’t know how many times I have hemmed petite pants. It’s annoying and expensive. So I was curious and cautiously optimistic for this legging.

Everlane who? Willing to try anything "ankle".

I’ve never tried clothes from Everlane, but what I’ve seen on Youtube or the Gram made me believe they offered decently priced, high quality, sustainable clothing.  I’ve been searching for the perfect legging for some time, ok more like several years, basically since the moment leggings were deemed acceptable to wear outside of the gym. Remember the days when we used to wear jogging pants to work out? So when I saw an ad promoting their perfect “perform” legging, I clicked as fast as I could. Irrespective of the smart name or brand clout, what sold me was that it came in petite or what they call ankle.

Product Review

Fast forward, I got the email that they were in stock, I ordered and two days later I had the Everlane Perform legging in my hands.  Where do I begin?”

Fabric First Impression:

What threw me off for a loop was the fabric. It feels like a slick solid piece of hosiery, as if a sheer stocking and thick tights got together and made a baby.  As I put them on I was cringing to see what these would look like considering how slick and light they were. I felt naked in front of the mirror, like I needed a long sweater to go over it because you can see every divot, every part that makes me a woman. Camel-toe isn’t a good way to describe it because it wasn’t a suggestion, it was a flat out statement. There was no lining in the crotch area to provide modesty which even thick tights provide. F

Fabric Second Impression:

So smooth and light;I’m ok feeling naked! For whatever reason, my lady was good, no issues with modesty.  You have to be comfortable in your own skin to wear these because it's literally like a second skin. A

I pressed my hand against the fabric, as you can see it's opaque and provides coverage. I did see some white come through which appears to be the fibers in the fabric and not my skin.

Opacity First Impression:

For the squat test, it failed miserably. I could see my underwear as I bent down, another reason to wear something long over it. F

Opacity Second Impression:

I took pics of me squatting and I can't see my underwear through them. What alternate universe was I in during my first impression? A

Fit First Impression:

On a high note, the length was perfect; a slight bunch, but nothing major to warrant hemming, so if you are 5’ 3” this would fit like a ⅞ legging. The waistband was also perfect, it had a slight compression to even out the lower pooch which is a concern for c-section moms like myself. There was no weird tight elastic band at the top of the waistline like New Balance leggings tend to have that make you blue in the face. The size small was perfect, for reference I tend to wear a size XS/S or 2/4 in Gap.  A

Fit Second Impression:

For once I can stick to my guns! A

At 4' 11' the fabric doesn't bunch too much, but if you're any shorter it may require hemming.

The back of the knee which can be an issue for petite women was form fitting instead of loose since that's where the thigh right above the knee should be on a 5' 3" person.

Smooth waistline with slight compression

First Impression Price:

Not the worst at $58 since other leggings go for as much as $118, but I’ve scored better performing leggings at my local TJ Maxx for $19.99. C

Second Impression Price:

Still expensive, but when you’re short and on the hunt for great bottoms, price goes out the window if it checks all the other boxes. These are a great deal for the fit and quality. B

Parting Notes

So if you’re looking for a legging that feels like you’re wearing nothing, you feel comfortable showing off your figure and you could part with $58, then this is the legging for you! In all seriousness, it’s extremely comfy. I could see myself wearing these on a long flight with a long cardigan or a short sweater with a thick collar and dad sneakers to grab coffee, or dare I say actually wear them to the gym? Activewear for the gym? Crazy idea...
